From "Winnie," "The Mooch" and Others - Words of Encouragement
When Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law made the quick transition to distance learning as a result of the COVID-19 health crisis in March 2020, I sent a series of videos containing words of encouragement and advice from various individuals through Cameo to my bar prep students.
Here's a collection of those videos:
An actor, mathematics writer, and education advocate (she's a summa cum laude graduate of UCLA with a degree in mathematics!), Danica McKellar is probably most widely recognized for playing Winnie Cooper in The Wonder Years from 1988 to 1993. All of her profits from Cameo are donated to children's charities -- more than $20,000 donated so far since the pandemic started!
Amy Van Dyken-Rouen is a six-time Olympic gold medalist in swimming. She won four golds at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, making her the first American woman to accomplish such a feat and the most successful athlete at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She was left paralyzed from the waist down after a 2014 ATV accident severed her spine. Through her foundation, Amy's Army, she strives to help others with spinal cord injuries. Its newest initiative, Wheels For Kids, works with caregivers to help provide wheelchairs for children.
"The Mooch" is a financier, entrepreneur, and political consultant who briefly served as the White House Director of Communications for 10 (he claims 11) days in July 2017. He graduated from Harvard Law School and failed the New York bar exam twice. Listen to his advice in this clip. As he says, don't be an "arrogant punk."
Also known as the "Voice of the Dallas Cowboys," Brad Sham is one of the most recognized play-by-play announcers in sports. And he knows how to motivate. As he says in this video: “You are in law school. You are going to be better lawyers. You’re going to pass the bar and be better lawyers because you will have had to expand your perspective and realize what’s inside of you that will help you overcome something that no one’s really ever had to go through before.”
