Revenge of the Sith: Don’t Let Bar Prep Pull You to the Dark Side

Most people know about May the Fourth—a celebration of Star Wars heroes like the Jedi, with the famous pun, “May the Fourth Be With You.” But what comes next is where things get interesting.

Enter Revenge of the Fifth (May 5) or Revenge of the Sixth (May 6)—a tongue-in-cheek nod to the villains of the Star Wars universe: The Sith. These days honor the fall of Anakin Skywalker and his transformation into Darth Vader in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

Whether you’re a die-hard fan or don’t know your Yoda from your Chewbacca, the message applies to bar prep: Stress and fear can push even the most promising students off track—just like they pushed Anakin.

Here’s how to stay grounded in the Force (and your studies):

Don’t go it alone. Anakin fell when he shut out his support system. Bar takers who isolate themselves—skipping feedback, avoiding check-ins, ghosting emails—are at greater risk of burning out. Reach out. Ask questions. Vent when you need to. Jedi don’t train alone.

Trust the process. Bar prep feels slow. Progress is invisible until it suddenly isn’t. Anakin craved shortcuts and control—don’t follow that path. Stick with your program. The daily grind is the only way to mastery.

Beware the Dark Side. Fear of failure. Frustration with low practice scores. Panic over what might be tested. These emotions are natural—but don’t let them drive your decisions. The exam doesn’t require perfection. It requires persistence.

Redemption is real. Missed a day of preparation? Didn’t complete a practice essay? That doesn’t make you a Sith Lord. Get back on track. There’s time.

So whether you’re recognizing May 5 or May 6, let this be a checkpoint: Are you letting fear, frustration, or isolation take over? Or are you staying focused on the light?

The bar exam is hard—but you don’t have to face it alone.

There is still good in you. And there is still time.
